CAPITAL CAMPAIGN

BUILDING THE BALLET
5 YEARS – $5 MILLION

PERFECTING THE POSITION

OF CAROLINA BALLET

Ballet dancers spend countless hours at the barre perfecting their technique. Every day at Carolina Ballet, our dancers focus on refining their positions. Now, Carolina Ballet is continuing its work to perfect our position as an organization through an ongoing capital campaign aimed at securing a permanent home for our offices and studios.

After 21 years at the same address, Carolina Ballet faced one of its greatest challenges—finding our next home. The building on Atlantic Avenue that once housed our studios, administrative offices, and the School of Carolina Ballet was sold in Fall 2022, and we relocated by the end of the 2022-2023 season. This necessity sparked the beginning of our capital campaign.

Under the leadership of Artistic Director/CEO Zalman Raffael, Carolina Ballet successfully navigated the past five seasons, including our milestone 25th Anniversary Season. With the guidance of local real estate professionals, Raffael swiftly identified a temporary new home for Carolina Ballet at 3030 Stony Brook Drive.

The first phase of this campaign was a success, with generous patrons helping Carolina Ballet cover the costs of relocating our studios and administrative offices. In Summer 2023, we moved into a customized, rented space designed to meet the needs of our dancers, staff, and school.

The next phase of the campaign focuses on securing a permanent location. As we continue our 27th season, we are raising funds that will be saved and invested until we find a building or land to purchase—potentially with space for a small performance venue. Our vision for the permanent home includes a vibrant space where arts organizations, nonprofit groups, and the community can come together to create, connect, and experience the arts. We dream of an inspiring environment with both indoor and outdoor access, open to individuals from all walks of life.

Join us in this exciting chapter of Carolina Ballet’s history by contributing to our ongoing Capital Campaign and helping us perfect our position in the community.

PHASES OF THE

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN

In Spring 2023, Carolina Ballet established a Campaign Cabinet of active Board Members, and determined the goals for the Capital Campaign.

PHASE ONE:

In early 2023, construction started on the
24,000-sqft building to create offices and
state-of-the-art studios with sprung dance floors. Relocating the Ballet’s studios, pointe shoe
storage, costume shop, administrative offices, and the School of Carolina Ballet, comes with large, unexpected costs that campaign will help cover.

The new space at 3030 Stony Brook Drive will
allow Carolina Ballet to continue to produce breathtaking ballets all the while continuing
the search for a permanent home.

Relocating The Ballet

PHASE TWO:

Finding Our Permanent Home

Phase Two of Carolina Ballet’s Capital Campaign will be the acquiring of a building and/or performance space, securing the permanence of the artform in the Triangle.

During this phase, Carolina Ballet will be actively working towards achieving the goal of buying or building our forever home. The campaign seeks to inspire those who are in the position to give a one-time additional gift or make an additional commitment for the next 3-5 years, without impacting their annual giving to Carolina Ballet.

NEXT STEPS:

How Carolina Ballet Is Moving Forward

The Capital Campaign is currently in progress thanks to Carolina Ballet’s Campaign Cabinet, Board of Directors, and generous philanthropic community.

Every gift to the Capital Campaign will be designated for use towards all costs related to the temporary building and the acquisition of a permanent location.
