Sydney Miller was born in Hanoi, Vietnam and grew up in Holly Springs, North Carolina. In 2013, she began her ballet training at Triangle Academy of Dance under Annette Hagopian and Margaret Severin-Hansen. During her time as a student she attended various summer courses, such as Pacific Northwest Ballet, School of American Ballet, and Carolina Ballet.
In 2022, Miller accepted an invitation to the School of American Ballet’s prestigious winter term program as an Advanced student under the direction of Kay Mazzo, Suki Schorer, Jonathan Stafford, and Jenifer Ringer. During her time at the school, she performed various works from choreographers such as George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins and Christopher Wheeldon. She was also a featured choreographer in the Virginia B. Toulmin Choreographic Institute for two years. In 2025, she graduated from SAB as a named Capstone student.
Also in 2025, Sydney proceeded to further her ballet training at the School of Carolina Ballet under Zalman Raffael and Jan Burkhard as a pre-professional student. While at the school she received many opportunities to perform alongside the school’s professional company, Carolina Ballet. She danced in many works by Zalman Raffael and George Balanchine. Sydney joined Carolina Ballet as an apprentice in 2026.
