2006-2007 Generously sponsored by the Department of Cultural Resources and approved by the North Carolina Legislature in July 2006, cARTwheels, formally named Caring & Sharing, is vibrant touring program designed to enhance student learning through the arts. During the 2006-2007 pilot program year, cARTwheels toured 4 arts organizations including Carolina Ballet and its production of Swan Lake, which allowed the ballet to further its mission of performing world-class ballet, as well as educating current and future audiences. • Productions were free of charge for students and visited rural areas • Carolina Ballet’s Swan Lake served nearly 11,000 students in 21 counties this year • The touring program included curriculum based education materials to help teachers prepare students for the performance and explore connections between the performance and their schoolwork • Allowed participating arts organizations to build relationships with venues, schools, and artists across the state |

They learn to respect the often very different ways others have of thinking, working, and expressing themselves. They learn to make decisions in situations where there are no standard answers.” Kent Seidel, PhD Commissioned by the Association for the Advancement of Arts Education (© 1996 AAAE) |
